Twitter making NFT moves

Twitter has become the latest big name company to make a major move into the NFT space.

NFTs (or Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique cryptographic tokens which may represent collectibles, assets or rights.

2021 was the year of the NFT boom, primarily led by the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Crypto Punks collections. BAYC and the Punks are digital images which can be used as profile pictures (PFPs). By using blockchain technology, NFTs allow for the verification of who is the true owner of the digital image and has not just copied & pasted the image.

Twitter has announced that it is rolling out a new feature which allows users to display their NFTs as their verified profile image. This will be extremely well received by the NFT community since the crypto community generally is very active on Twitter but also because it helps with the “right-click, save” issue whereby a non-NFT owner can save the digital image and use as their own PFP.

The news followed reports a few days earlier that Facebook and Instagram are also working on similar features to their apps.

NFTs seem to be here to stay, watch this space!
